Letter to Students and Parents,

Hello and welcome to Literacy Strategies at E Cubed Academy.  We will learn much from each other as we push forward to attain proficiency in reading and writing strategies. My class is productive and interactive--no busy work. The amount of activity makes the time go by quickly.One of the most extraordinary changes that have happened in our district is the Read180 classroom in high school. Why? I believe that students who take my class along with their English class make tremendous gains because students take ownership through analyses of their student reports to identify strengths and weaknesses as well as celebrate progress towards their goals; thus, improving overall student performance.  I love teaching and learning. After teaching for eleven years, I look forward to the challenges we may face together and the opportunity to move you to the next level. I have taught this class successfully for four years, and students don't want to exit after they have met their goal. They exit this class with a greater appreciation for reading and writing.  Lastly, I believe that education is the way to eliminate poverty. You are now in high school. You are called out of middle school into something, to go somewhere else--START FRESH!!! Have a great school year.Mrs. Winkfield 

Course Summary:
Strategies, also called Read180, is a reading program that supports grade-appropriate reading skills using disciplanry literacy embedded in the workshop model. There is  daily small group discussion and independent reading. Students practice reading, writing,vocabulary, grammar skills daily.
